I like to go out and have some fun as much as the next person. Mostly it is to eat as I don’t really drink but I do enjoy going to the movies and the theatre once I plan ahead. I also love gigs but Cork isn’t great for a big gig centre really. Here are some of my favourite places
Mahon Point – Cinema
I go to the cinema at least once a week. I usually go with my wife or sons or both. And sometimes even alone as it helps me to destress plus they might not like my taste in a film. Mahon Point has an amazing cinema with a MAXX screen that is a great location to watch the latest blockbusters. They have 8 screens (I think) and show all the latest movies. I try and go Tuesdays also as they have cheaper tickets on that day as well. Booking online also gives you a discount which is nice.
Triskel Arts Centre
I have been a fan to the “the Triskel” for years. They have an amazing range of offerings and for a small intimate theatre they do amazing work. I don’t consider myself a big theatre goer but Triskel don’t just do theatre they also do film and book readings which is great. I try an get in there once a month as they have so many great options at great prices. They also are very active on social media so you hear what is coming and it isn’t always sold out.
Cork Opera House
The Cork Opera House has sort of reinvented itself and now have some great gigs and not just theatre and old fashioned shows. The main seated area can be taken out and made into standing and I have seen some great gigs there in recent years. My favourite in the last 12 months was Fleet Foxes which was definitely one of my all time favourite gigs.
I must also confess I haven’t missed a Pantomime there in years. We go there without fail. It is such a Cork tradition that we wouldn’t miss it for the world
